Born in July 1946, Bordeaux, France. For all his teen age, he admired his father's hobby painting work, thinking he will never be able to do the same. He received his Medical Doctor Diploma in 1972, he then worked as a G.P. In the countryside of southwest France.
Always sailing since his childhood, he sailed his boat from France to Caribbean in 1977, where he began painting in 1978 while practicing in the tiny islands of Les Saintes, South of Guadeloupe, W.I. In 1996, Chevallier settled in Palm Island, St Vincent & Grenadines, W.I. He was commissioned to paint a big underwater scene (8'x4'), from a dive fan friend. Owing to the large size of the canvas, he was obliged to paint it outdoors and was puzzled by the interest of people passing by. Encouraged and intrigued by this new subject matter, he then painted some smaller underwater scenery, which were sold immediately. Since then, the painting hobby turned into a real job and he keeps himself very occupied with the many commissions which come his way. Medicine, (which he still practices as an emergency sailing doctor), has turned in a secondary activity! Chevalier's technique is very classic : oil paint on canvas. He uses both his own diving experience (now assisted by a waterproofed digital camera) and host of reference materials to provide incredible and accurate information about the fishes, corals and sponges he paints. His work is now displayed throughout the Caribbean, in places like Antigua, Barbados, Bonaire, Cayman Islands, St Barth, and Florida. In addition to his fine oil canvasses, his work how now been offered in the form of fine printed giclées, as well as other mediums such posters, jigsaw puzzle, playing cards and postcards.
